A story of re-knowing the heart to re-know the world

I was introduced to the research of The Heart Math Institute with somatic educator Liz Koch not simply as a theory, or a meditation, but as a deep somatic exploration and knowing.
This marked a departure from traditional narratives I had absorbed from the spiritual world, which often held notions of ‘open, closed, blocked, good, or bad hearts’. The exploration of the heart as an electromagnetic, oscillating, and resonant field that had its own intelligence brought forth a profound shift in my perception and experience. Finally, I shed preconceived ideas and oppressive language, immersing myself in a dynamic and nourishing field of the heart that I could sense, was entangled and merging with everything. Ideas of me and mine shifted: I was part of life’s contiuumm, individualised in my unique embodiment, but never detached from anything. My heart was always present and sensing, as was every other persons, no matter their story or situation. I wanted to bring to others this shift in perception in a way that is non-threatening or prescriptive, and able to allow other bodies to have this sense of our corporeal entanglement. Below are some track makers for you to explore as you make your own discoveries.

“Bathed in light, submerged in sound and rapt in feeling, the sentient body, at once both perceiver and producer,
traces the paths of the world’s becoming in the very course of contributing to its ongoing renewal.
Here, surely, lies the essence of what it means to dwell.”

A generative sonic entanglement to bring to life the science of The Heart Math Institute to contemplate the heart’s electromagnetic field and what that means in terms of the individual and closeness.

A black and white illustration of a knot in the shape of a heart, surrounded by the quote: 'The heart is, an arrangement so unusual, and perplexing, that it has long been considered as a kind of Gordian knot.'

I was inspired to also understand the formation of the heart as a gordian knot and helix spiral.

Quote about measuring electromagnetic signals in the human body attributed to Rollin McCraty of HeartMath Institute.

The scientific research of the Heartfield’s impact on nearby is very thought-provoking - as is the research that shows cosmic events affecting our heart rate variability and heart field.

A printed poem titled 'Heart Listening' about the connection between the heart and listening, describing the emergence and growth of a heart from primordial fluid, likening it to a musical rhythm and a wave, emphasizing perception and consciousness, ending with the phrase 'Here I am.'

I wrote this poem to encapsulate my own journey of exploring and understanding the heart as an organ of listening and beyond-the-body sensing.

Listen and practice Heartfield to the recordings, and develop your own practice for being ecologically entangled through the heart.
